'Abraham's Sacrifice of Isaac' by Il Baciccio

Baroque Painting

The High’s Baroque paintings include works by Giovanni Battista Gaulli (called Il Baciccio), Pieter Lastman, Nicolas Tournier, and Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (called Il Guercino). Baroque art—made in Europe in the late sixteenth through early eighteenth centuries—is characterized by dramatic action, strong diagonal lines that create depth, and emotionally charged imagery.
