American Landscape
The High Museum holds several excellent examples of American landscape paintings, from early nineteenth-century imaginary views, to the Hudson River School and their explorations of American nature, to the impressionist and modern landscapes of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Key artists include John Frederick Kensett, T. Worthington Whittredge, Frederic Church, Thomas Cole, George Inness, Edward Bannister, Thomas Moran, Louis Rémy Mignot, and Martin Johnson Heade.
