African American Art
Throughout the twentieth century, African American artists have made profound contributions to the development of art in the United States. From artists of the Harlem Renaissance to the Black Arts movement to those working today within the global milieu of the African diaspora, artists of African descent have fundamentally altered the ways we perceive race, identity, and cultural hybridity. Conceptual artist Nadine Robinson was born to African parents and grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, before immigrating to New York City. Her Coronation Theme: Organon is a tribute to the civil rights movement of her adopted homeland.
