Event Description

Experience Bruce Onobrakpeya: The Mask and the Cross, the first solo exhibition at an American museum for sculptor and printmaker. Members see it first and free! On Thursday, April 6, discover this new exhibition before it opens to the public.

Onobrakpeya is a founding member of the Zaria Art Society, an art collective that developed the “natural synthesis” aesthetic that came to define early postcolonial Nigerian art. “The Mask and the Cross” describes the artist’s creative phase from 1967 through 1978, during which he created numerous works marrying Nigerian tradition, folklore and cosmology with Catholic motifs and stories from the Bible. Learn more about this special exhibition.

Capacity is limited and preregistration is required. Register using the ticket button above or by calling Member Services at 404-733-4575 (Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.).
