Convening on Arts and Aging
Tuesday, May 2, 2023
9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
What role can art and creativity play in later life? How can we expand opportunities for older adults to engage with art, and who can we look to for inspiration? Join colleagues from museums, arts centers, aging-services organizations, and senior residences for a day of discussion and exploration of how engaging with art can foster learning, creativity, and meaningful social connections for older adults and across generations.
Since launching our Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning initiative in 2020, the High Museum has conducted audience research on Atlantans ages fifty-five and over, piloted and evaluated art programs designed with the varying needs and interests of older adults in mind, launched new partnerships with aging-services organizations and senior residences, and worked to make the Museum more age-friendly. The Convening on Arts and Aging will highlight important takeaways from these efforts and spark new conversations through presentations from leading figures in the arts and aging-services sectors, experiential learning in the High’s galleries and studio spaces, personal and professional reflection, and professional networking. See the brief Convening Program for more information on the day’s speakers, topics, and breakout sessions.
The Convening on Arts and Aging is intended for colleagues working in arts settings or for people who work with older adults through community-based organizations and senior residences. Registration is $95 and includes a full day program followed by a reception. Registrants may pre-purchase parking in the Woodruff Arts Center parking garage with registration.
The High Museum of Art is located in Midtown Atlanta and is accessible by car or by MARTA. See the Visit page for directions, parking, and other information on getting to the High.
Those traveling from outside of the Metro Atlanta area can find more information on area hotels and dining options on our Convening travel page.
There are a limited number of scholarships available to cover the cost of registration. To inquire about a scholarship or for general inquiries about the Convening, please email email@example.com or call 404-733-5034.
Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning programs and events are made possible with support from the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
