Description
Believing in the spiritual power of art, Alan Saret draws inspiration from subjects such as alchemy, emphasizing the transformation of earthly matter as a metaphor for the liberation of the human spirit. In Queen’s Mesh Saret works to convert form “so it is very permeable to light, and the light is caught on a multitude of delicate veils.” He approaches the physical properties of the piece in new ways by pushing them in different directions. For example, he softens the rigidity of the wire grid pattern to create a lacy, moiré effect by overlapping mesh, while the title of this work conveys a sense of the feminine and regal.
