Description
Aaron Siskind’s interest and experimentation with abstract photography began in the early 1940’s. He is now widely regarded as one of the most important and influential photographers of the twentieth century. The Levitation series is composed of divers contorted into unique shapes and was shot at Lake Michigan. The high contrast between the body and the white background makes the shape and outline of each figure almost sublime, familiar, and yet unsettling in its distortion.
