Description
Adams, who was known for his technical skill, timed the exposure of this image perfectly to capture the juxtaposition of the moon with the brightly lit crosses of the foreground. Taken in late afternoon, Adams found a fleeting moment of exquisite lighting. He intended this work to be his contribution to the war effort as he was looking to portray a heroic image to remind Americans what was at stake at home.
